Life, as I see it, starts off as an empty canvas. For all intents and purposes, each of us is able to paint onto our canvas whatever we choose. We can paint HAPPINESS. PROSPERITY. FORGIVENESS. DESPAIR. ENVY. JOY. Whatever we choose.
I am 50 years old and have NEVER felt embraced by PROFESSIONAL FULFILLMENT. Not once. However, I TRULY and WHOLLY BELIEVE I can paint my canvas to reflect JOY and EXHILARATION and GRATITUDE despite a lack of professional fulfillment. Hell, I can even REDEFINE my idea of professional fulfillment. The choice is SOLELY mine to make.
So, here it is 12:04 AM on Sunday morning, June 29th, 2014. And I, CHARLES ANDREW MONTGOMERY JR, alias CAM MONTGOMERY JR, choose to be THANKFUL for being the man I am. Choose to FORGIVE MYSELF for sometimes feeling LESS THAN in the presence of those I deem "professionally fulfilled." 'Cause truth be told, I can only TRULY know what I feel about ME. I can NEVER truly know what another feels about him/herself.
Whether the world "knows" me or not, I AM WORTHY of ALL the LOVE, RESPECT and ADMIRATION human beings have to offer. I AM WORTHY.
It has taken me a "minute" to figure it out, but TODAY, I FULLY accept that I can paint my life's canvas to look ANY way I choose. And I choose to paint it to reflect the REAL me: KIND, GIVING, SENSITIVE, TALENTED, COMPASSIONATE, EMPATHETIC and PRESENT.
My Facebook bud, RODNEY RAZOR, is finding quite a bit of success in the world of physique competitions/modeling. His discipline is OTHERWORLDLY! I could most assuredly benefit from emulating him in that regard!
Today, my father's 77-yr-old baby sister, AUNT MARGARET, lost her life because a careless driver drove through a red light and crashed into the side of her vehicle. She is survived by her husband (who was also in the car and is recovering in the hospital), five children and a host of grandchildren.
What gets me is that yesterday, she was doing whatever she was doing and all was well in the world. Then, today, it's all over. That's the way life goes.
So, let me get out of this apartment and march myself up to the park to exercise.
Let me polish up the one-page monologue I'm writing to be filmed by a couple of young filmmakers.
Let me reach out to someone I love and simply check up on him/her.
Let me simply give GRATITUDE for being ALIVE. And WELL.
Goodbye, Aunt Margaret. Everybody who was blessed to have ever spent time in your presence is all the happier for it.
I see any number of folks online bellyachin' about Zendaya being cast to portray AALIYAH in a Lifetime movie. Their gripe is that she has much lighter skin than Aaliyah. Well, I didn't hear ONE gripe when Denzel portrayed someone HE is MUCH DARKER than!
I'm back at my gig with Our House Productions and I'm damn THANKFUL for it!!!!! But I've gotta admit that walking to and from work each day takes its toll on a brotha. Whew!!!!
I walk from my place to Burbank Airport and back. Unless I'm given more days, this upcoming Monday is my last day 'til Jury. So, THANK YOU, JESUS, for giving me the strength to KEEP ON WALKIN'!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday, I was RIGHT SMACK DAB in the CENTER of THIS STANDOFF!!!!!
I was driving on Magnolia Ave. and pulled up to a stoplight opposite the 170 South exit. I saw a Latino gangbanger type (straight outta CENTRAL CASTING) pull over to the side of the road, pointed in the opposite direction of me. He hopped OUT of his car and started running up the street! He was carrying a BIG-A$$ ASSAULT RIFLE! Right on his tail were several police cars, sirens a-BLAZIN'!
I saw on the news that the cat barricaded himself in some random person's house! Whew!
All you actor types DYING to move to L.A. from your comfy homes in IOWA, THINK about it!!!!!!
WHAT THE WHAT!!!! I saw on the news an aerial view of the suspect leaping out of his car and THERE I was in FULL VIEW, sitting at the red light!!!!! On the video below, though, I only see a verrrrrrrrry quick glimpse of my rental car. It's the silver car in front of the black car that's clearly visible. When I saw myself in another video, I noticed I was pulled up WAAAAAY too far into the crosswalk! #GottaWatchThat
This past Sunday I was introduced to some new music. An electronica duo named, DISCLOSURE. They're two young boys (actually brothers) in their early 20s. Anyway, of course they don't sing, so they teamed up with a singer named, SAM SMITH, and produced my new favorite song: LATCH.
Okay, so the song was originally released in 2012 (in the UK), but dang it, I had NEVER heard of it 'til a couple days ago. It was released here in America back in February of this year. I reckon the fact that I don't usually converse with teenagers is the reason I've never heard of it. But, man, I'm now soooo glad I have. The song is so dang infectious I can't get it outta my head. Sam reminds me of a present day BOY GEORGE for Millennials!
So, for other folks in my generation, please allow me to introduce YOU to "Latch."
Twenty-four years ago YESTERDAY, the MARIAH CAREY era began on the Billboard charts. I was 26 years old in 1990 when I spoke on the phone to a 20-yr-old MARIAH while she was in the recording studio. I asked her to sing a snippet of "Vision Of Love" to me. She did. I wonder if she remembers that phone call!
This song just makes me feel soooooooooooo HAPPY!!! The artist, IGGY AZALEA, is a pretty blonde from Australia who grew up loving American rap music. So, why not affect a black rapper's speech pattern and make her own hit?? I LOVE this!!!!!!
