By A Nose
Since January of this year, I've been experiencing nosebleeds. And, honestly, they just pop up out of nowhere! Prior to January, I couldn't for the life of me tell you when I last had a nosebleed. I'm sure I must have had one in my past, but it's been sooo long ago that I don't recall. Anyway, I'm 100% convinced that the cause of these darn inconveniences are the low dosage aspirin I take every day to keep my blood thin so it doesn't clot in my arteries. I'm tellin' you, since the blood is so thin, getting it to clot in my nose is a chore. In fact, each time I've had recent nosebleeds, I spat the clot up. It never formed in my nose. --- Last night's nosebleed was the absolute worst of the three or four I've had this year. The absolute WORST! It began at 12:30 AM or so, but I didn't get it under control 'til well after 5 AM. Ordinarily, physicians instruct you to go to an emergency room if the bleeding doesn't stop within 20 minutes. I have no health insurance, so I diagnosed it myself. Okay, that's not entirely true. I did place a call to a doctor at the clinic I go to and she corroborated my belief that my low dosage aspirin are probably the cause of my woe! My next doctor's appointment is on the 21st, so, until then, I'm going NOWHERE near the aspirin. --- Just in case anyone out in internet land should suffer from a nosebleed anytime soon, THIS is how you stop it!
Read It And Weep
This past weekend I finished the book, MR. CSI, by writer/producer, Anthony E. Zuiker. He's the creator/executive producer of the CSI tv franchise. Anyway, he details beautifully in the book how the absence of his father affected him in ways he never thought. The book also chronicles his rise in Hollywood. For me, the takeaway was simply to keep pushing onward; regardless what common sense and a multitude of others might tell me to do! Before I finished the book, though, I read on the internet that he's divorcing his wife. And the proceedings haven't been too terribly nice. I just hope & pray that when the dust around the divorce settles, there'll be NO need for a CSI to tie up The Zuiker's loose ends! Feel me??? :)

Twist(er) And Shout
Over the past couple days, some areas of the northeast, midwest and south have taken a pounding by tornadoes. I packed up and moved away from Indiana 24 yrs ago. I haven't really thought much about tornadoes since. Well, not until I watch news programs and read headlines on the internet! I'm thankful my family back in Indianapolis is fine, but my heart goes out to all those whose families aren't. The devastation left in the wake of a tornado should ONLY be designed by set designers in a film or tv show. Not in real life! Yes, here in Los Angeles I have earthquakes and wild fires to fret about. And I don't like those, either. But seeing what has become of many families' homes is heartbreaking. It affirms for me yet again that I should NEVER become too terribly attached to an inanimate object. 'Cause a gust of wind can take it away in an instant!!! God bless all survivors. And those who didn't. --- More information about the tornadoes HERE.

Low Roller
One of my neighbors confided in me last night that he has an addiction. A gambling addiction. Less than a week ago, he gambled away almost $2000. Where did he get the money? His credit card. Cash advance. And you know how much interest is assessed to cash advances. Well, rent is due later today and he's short. Noooo, I didn't give him any money. I gave financial assistance to bail another friend out of a jam yesterday. It was only $10.00, but that's ten bucks that friend didn't have! Well, back to my gambling neighbor. I asked him how I could help him kick his gambling habit. I figured it's best to assist him with the root of the problem instead of just the problem. He says he wants to get closer to God. That's fine and good, but I say he has to first take responsibility for his actions. That God gives him free will and he's got to choose the will NOT to gamble. For all intents and purposes he's taking care of his mother as she grows old, so, when he screws up, he's not just screwing up HIS life, he's screwing up HERS, too! My first step towards helping him change his life is accompanying him to church this upcoming Sunday. Hey, it's a start. While there, I'll certainly hold myself accountable for changing MY life, too!!!!
