A Lil Indiana

Today I was blessed to visit with my dear friend, Shelley, and her beautiful family.

Her son, Quinn, is living here in L.A.  He's been here nearly a year.  He sure seems to be enjoying himself.

Her daughter, Lauren, is living in NYC these days and loves every moment of it.  But she is also enjoying her time here on the BEST coast!  Haaa!

As for Kevin, the hubby, I think he'd be just fine kickin' back in a cool room with a beer on tap!  And I can't blame him.  It's a hundred dang degrees out here in these L.A. streets!

Truth be told, every time I'm in Shelley's presence I feel sooooo THANKFUL for being alive.

The woman is a GODSEND.

Her KINDNESS, COMPASSION and LOYALTY are unparalleled.

I ADORE her.

ALWAYS.

AND.

FOREVER.

I'm tellin' you: it's ALWAYS nice to have a lil Indiana in my life!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY 2017

To MY FATHER, Mr. Charles A. Montgomery Sr., I wish a GLORIOUS FATHER'S DAY in HEAVEN!

And to my BROTHER, Mr. Dwayne A. Montgomery, I wish a GLORIOUS FATHER'S DAY on EARTH!

Kravetz with an "E"

In Ancient Roman religion, Sol, is a solar deity.

God of the sun.

In Hebrew, it means Peace.

The man, SOL KRAVETZ, whom I grew to admire and appreciate, transitioned from this world on June 8th, 2017.

At peace.

He was 92 years BLESSED.

So, his name fit him just fine.

I met Sol at Sunrise Senior Living.

I have been a volunteer at the residence since 2010.  As a result, I've seen many, many residents come and go.

Some pack up and go on to another similar residence.

And even more go on to another dimension.

My interaction with Sol was a little different than what I experience with most residents.

It was more personal.

During each of my twice monthly visits, I'd sit and enjoy a spirit-filled lunch hour with him.  We'd talk about whatever came to his mind.  I could always count on at least one topic of conversation every, single time: Angela Lansbury.

Sol worked many years as a teacher and eventually a Principal.  He told me a million times often that Angela's son, David, attended his school.  He recounted a story of walking the boy out to Angela's car one day, and being surprised that she never acknowledged him for doing so.  But that "snub" didn't stop him from being an avid viewer of Murder She Wrote reruns!

He talked to me about living in Brooklyn as a boy.

About moving to California.

About his brilliant, older brother, Nathan.

About joining the military and being stationed in France for a bit.  He even learned some French back then, too!

And traded cigarettes for candy!

He told me about meeting his late wife, Joan, on a beach.

And that his greatest regret was not treating her as well as he should have.

He told me about his intelligent, goal-driven daughter, Lauren.

And about his daughter, Harriet, who caused him much worry during her youth.

As fate would have it, both of his daughters proved themselves to be faithful daughters who made sure he was comfortable.

He often told me that "Harriet does everything for me.  I don't even know how much I pay to live here."

I'd tell him, "You don't need to know how much you pay.  You don't need to think about much of anything any longer, except enjoying every, single day."

He'd voice his bewilderment regarding his grandson, Tyler's, lack of interest in learning to drive.  The young man eventually got his driver's license.

He'd talk about his older grandson, Austin, being quiet around him.

He'd talk about the boys' father.  And I'll leave it at that. :)

One of my fondest memories with him was searching the internet for a new wedding band.  He told me he wanted one to let everybody know he was a married man and in love with his wife.  I suppose he was adamant about telling me that because I often teased him about hookin' up with one of the ladies in the residence.  Lol

On his birthday, Harriet gifted him with a gold band, and he wore it every day afterward.  Proudly, might I add.

Last Sunday, June 11th, I attended Sol's burial.

Being there was a privilege.  Being asked to be a pallbearer was even more so.

I even was allowed to shovel dirt over his casket.  I had never seen such an act done by mourners at a funeral.  But then again, that was the first Jewish funeral I had attended.

After the funeral ceremony, I joined the family at a restaurant reception.

Honestly, the atmosphere at the restaurant was truly a celebration of his life.  Both the collages pictured above were on display.  It was great to see a young Sol since I had only known him as a man in his 90s.

In the photos, he appears:

Young.

Vital.

Happy.

I was asked to stand up and share with the guests how Sol and I came to know one another.  And I did.

Happily.

Resolutely.

Proudly.

Well, I want the world to know I'm hella happy to have met Mr. Sol Kravetz.

And that's Kravetz with an "e."  :)

Seriously, What?????

It's 1:36 AM and I've got a slice of apple pie, compliments of Costo, in the oven, heating up.

Why am I eating dessert at this ungodly hour, you ask?

Because I want to!

No, seriously, I'm awake asking myself what I deem the million dollar question:

Honestly, in my day-to-day life I observe people breaking their backs (some literally, but most, figuratively) working to earn as much money as they can.

But for what?

This house?

This car?

This school?

This purse?

This exclusive club?

Really, once a person obtains any or all these things, is he/she automatically happy?

Well, we know the answer to that question.

Yet, folks damn near kill themselves to get their hands on these things.

Well, for me, I simply pursue a life of spontaneity, nature, food, friends, family, and just enough money so that I never have to worry think about it!

That's what "it all" a.k.a. life means to me.

22 Days Away

Twenty-two days from now marks the PREMIERE of BIG BROTHER!!!

We're getting prepared for Season 19!  Season 19!

I climbed aboard the BB train back in Season 14!  Tons of folks have come and gone since then, but I still find that meeting new houseguests is a hoot!

Heck, being reacquainted with old houseguests ain't too bad, either! :)

"The Ball Smashers"

The summer of 2017 is about to get HELLA HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Class Of 2017

Last month, my one and only godson was graduated from Saint Joseph's University!

I can't believe how quickly the time has flown by!

I recall him droppin' from the womb back in 1995!

He's now a whopping 22 years blessed.  And a college graduate!

BRAVO, Jordan!  BRAVO!

I'm sure his mom and brother are as proud of him as I am!

I hope and pray he lives his life as FEARLESSLY as humanly possible.

'Cause livin' without fear of new experiences and challenges seems to lead directly to one helluva great and fulfilling ADULT life!

Again, BRAVO, Jordan!

BRAVO!

October Baby

A young woman reminds her mother every day that she's pregnant.

She has to remind her because her mother is living with Alzheimer's.

Their interaction is...

POWERFUL!

BEAUTIFUL!

And HEARTBREAKING!

All at the same time.
